Give Thanks and Win

When a loved one passes at a young age, the void is felt with each milestone missed. Losing her mom as a young lady in her 20’s, has made Kim appreciative of everyday with her family. Kim decided to take part in the 40 over 40 project to celebrate her season of life. I love sharing my client’s stories through portraits and interviews.  Part of the 40 over 40 project is to pass on words of wisdom from everyday women going through everyday struggles.  Kim gives us all a reminder that life is short and to count all your blessings.

Here are a few snippets from Kim’s interview.

What made you get pictures done?

I saw the ad on facebook and when I saw that Brandi was celebrating women over 40, I decided I wanted to celebrate this season of my life with a photoshoot. I’ve always anticipated my 40’s with a little sadness because my mom passed away at my age.

How do you think the definition of beauty has changed over the years?

I think women are embracing aging differently today than they did many years ago.  Despite social media and photoshop, I think women are becoming more confident as they get older and enjoying it a lot more than they use too.

What would you tell your 20-year-old self?

You’re going to be ok and not to worry.

What is on your bucket list?

To stay healthy.  I love my life and am thankful for my health and my family.  I just want to live a long healthy life, that is my bucket list.

What would your husband say if he saw you today?

He would probably giggle right along with me but he would tell me I look beautiful.

What advice would you give a young mom today?

Get off social media.  I feel young moms are missing out on their children’s childhood.  Turn off the phone and go be with your kids.

What is a myth about being over 50 you would like to dispel?

That you are going to feel older.  I don’t feel older.  I still feel like i did in my 20’s just with more wisdom.

What advice would you give your children?

I want them to be kind, good, caring and compassionate people.  Your life is just better when you are kind and compassionate.

What is your favorite quote?

My favorite quote is from the book 1000 gifts.  “Every breathe is a battle between grudgery and gratitude.  Give thanks and you win joy.” ~ Ann Voskamp
